The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has resolved a trademark lawsuit against the public Italian television broadcaster RAI (Radiotelevisione Italiana). The lawsuit, concerning RAI’s broadcast of several Italian-language "Oscar" award programs, was filed in 2005 in the United States District Court in Los Angeles.
Last Friday, terms of the settlement were read into the Court record, but were not publicly disclosed. According to an attorney for the Academy, that organization continues to maintain exclusive right to use the name "Oscar" for awards shows.
Other Academy lawsuits against RAI are still underway in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
